ABOUT US

We implement comprehensive support programs for displaced people, promoting economic and social inclusion, personal and collective autonomy, and the right to build a decent life in conditions of freedom and security.

The International Human Rights Network Europe (RIDHE) is an international non-profit organization founded in 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland; in 2019 in Brussels, Belgium; and in 2021 in San José, Costa Rica, by human rights defenders (HRDs), civil society organizations (CSOs), universities, and public institutions from the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).

The Network is composed of 41 member organizations, 21 from Latin America and the Caribbean and 20 from Europe, giving it a bi-regional, diverse, and strongly interconnected character.

Since its establishment, RIDHE has carried out sustained work based on a non-violent, participatory, community-oriented and human rights-based approach, making a significant contribution to the strengthening of civil society, the protection of human rights defenders, and international advocacy.

Its action is structured around three interrelated strategic pillars. The Agreement establishing RIDHE defines the following objectives:

1. Strengthening civil society organizations and human rights defenders

RIDHE supports civil society organizations, coalitions, and human rights defenders operating in contexts of high risk, authoritarianism, and criminalization. Through protection measures, resilience-building, capacity strengthening, and organizational sustainability actions, the Network contributes to enabling defenders to continue their work in a safer and more effective manner.

2. Promotion of the right to education as a tool for protection and social transformation

RIDHE promotes the right to inclusive and quality education, particularly for migrants, young people, and women in situations of forced displacement and social exclusion. Through its Education in Emergencies Programme, education is understood as a key tool for protection, empowerment, social cohesion, and the reduction of structural inequalities.

3. International advocacy before multilateral and regional bodies

RIDHE advances international advocacy actions before United Nations bodies and European Union institutions, with the aim of making serious human rights violations visible, influencing decision-making processes, and amplifying the voices of communities and individuals affected by political repression, forced displacement, and structural exclusion.

RIDHE is recognized by its membership and a wide range of partner institutions as a key and relevant actor in the advancement and defense of human rights.

We seek to contribute to the strengthening of high-level political dialogue and to multidimensional cooperation based on human rights, democracy, and social justice.

From an approach of social justice, gender and intersectionality, we promote transformative processes that they make visible and accompany historically excluded communities with an emphasis on women defenders, youth, people with disabilities, displaced persons and those in situations of forced mobility. Our work is nourished by participatory and innovative methodologies, specialized training and academic analysis, to give life to high-impact collaborative initiatives.

We build a more just, supportive and inclusive society in which diversity is accepted as a value and in which each person can develop their life project. We believe in each person's capacity for change and we are committed to the most vulnerable through closeness and support.

Commitment with human rights and human dignity; we strive to ensure that all people have the same opportunities and obligations to decide their future and achieve individual and collective well-being.

Diversity acting to ensure fair treatment, inclusion and access to opportunities for all people.

Gender Equality promote transformations regarding inequalities and inequities in the condition, construction of the roles and position of men and women in society.
